Athletes tell you about their experience with anabilic. Steroids

Anabolic steroids are a ticket to hell

Ze stupňů vítězů na invalidní vozík

From thes of victory to a wheelchair

J. Holoubek

You can see him practically every day on Tyrsov Street in Benesov going shoping as usual or maybe taking an afternoon walk. He answers every hello with a smile a nod, and a how are you and, leaning on a canes, contiues on his way. At first sight, you¨d say that he´s an exceptionally happy man. In 1981 he won the title Campion of Czechoslovak Socialist. Republic and the title Sports Champion in the overthe-head press. Besides this a whole order of medals, and by his own account, he´s had other successes. He´s lived through the heights and the depths. His name is JOSEF KVEREK.

But this an old song. Everything has a price, and Mr. Kverek paid quite too much. Joint and spinal disease, epilepsy, poor memory and orientation sense, psychological problems, a diet for a damaget gall bladder and digestive system. He has spent a part of his life in a wheelchair and is happy today to be able to walk on crutches, with a corset, knee supports, receive disability income, and live in a nursig home. And this is how the career of a successful athlete can end, with the help of taking, at first unaweres and later heady with exceptional success, well-known products that bolster the growth of musculatur volume—anabolic. Steroids.

When J. Kverek thinks about it, thinks about how in all began year ago on a vacation with his family in Bulgaria, where he was amazed to watch weightlifters, strapping seventeen –year –old students in high school, who could have stopped a locomotive. Suddenly, his life had direction and a goal: he wanted to be just like them and he was—after a time. He went to Bohumina where he trained in the morning before school. He forewent a diploma to be Czech champion and he was still healthy. He took some pills, because his trained insisted they were vitamins. When he realized they were anabolic steropids, he was already riding the express to the station marked „Success.“

By dint of training, he lifted 215kilograms in the gymnasium and 170kilograms competitive lifting. His marriage fell apart, he became sterile, and he had to be resignet to the fact that he would not be having any descendants. He was a guy and we wasn´t a guy. His second marriage fell apart, he couldn´t work even where he had worked before, and 30 when health called in its loan. Profesor Miroslav Kucera, under whose care Josef Kverek now is, says this about the outcome. „If he had done his lifting ( without the anabolic steroids), things wouldnn´t have turned out this way. What Kverek experienced is called overlifting? Syndrome. When you take anabolic steroids, your muscular volume increases quickly, but the drugs do nothing to strengten the sinews, tendons, bones, and joints.

Today, in his apartment in a nursing home, he remembers it all with a bitter smile. He´s reminded of the folktale of the „Three Veterans“ who expected medals for their service, but didn´t even get potatoes. And there is another side of the coin called success. He only understood it later. The former Champion of the Republic and Sports Champion is happy if he can pay a few crowns to make things better, because candidate town representative on the Citizens´Democratic Party, but didn´t succed.

He´ll try again next time.

Our chances of success against an are greater, the more we know about him. This is what Kverek says about the war against an enemy are greater, the war against anabolic steroids. He writes, meets, lectures, and generally warns all yong athletes because he alone know what hes´ talking about him. He writes, meets, lectures, and generally warns all yong athletes because he alone know what he´s talking about. But both the longing of young people for success at any price and the power and fat purses of the pharmaceutical giants that make a profit off anabolic steroids and like preparations that can only be compared to what the Mafia makes stand against him. Itś an unfair match. But it´s better to light a candle than curse the darkness.
